Mole Removal

Highlight your skin’s natural beauty by removing unwanted moles.

What are moles?

Moles are common skin growths that can appear anywhere on the body. They vary in size, shape, and color and are usually brown or black, but they can also be flesh-colored. Most moles are harmless, though they can sometimes change over time. These changes can include alterations in size, shape, or color, which may be a cause for concern. In rare cases, some moles can develop into melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

Why Consider Mole Removal?

While many moles are benign and don’t pose a health risk, there are several reasons why individuals choose to remove them:

  •  Aesthetic Concerns: Moles can sometimes detract from the overall appearance, especially if they are large or located in visible areas like the face, neck, or hands.
  • Changes in Appearance: Any changes in the size, color, or shape of a mole can be a sign of skin cancer, and it’s essential to seek professional evaluation and removal if needed.
  • Physical Discomfort: Some moles can rub against clothing or become irritated, causing discomfort or pain.

How do we treat moles?

Fotona’s StarWalker Pico Nano laser

At Inovo Medical, we treat most non-raised dermal, epidermal and strongly pigmented lesions using the Fotona’s Pico Nano StarWalker laser. This is a pigment selective laser that innovates the treatment of melasma, birthmarks, solar lentigines, and tattoo removal. The laser destroys pigment without burning the skin or stimulating cells to produce more pigments. It’s the only device that reduces downtime and carries no risks of causing dermal hyperpigmentation, which is usually a concern in Asian, Black, and Middle Eastern skin tones.

Fotona’s SP Dynamis Pro laser

For raised epidermal or dermal lesions such as moles, plane warts, seborrheic keratosis, skin tag, fibrous papule, or milias – we use the Fotona SP Dynamis Pro erbium laser to remove the lesions one layer at a time with a high level of precision.

Understanding the Depth of Lesions

Epidermal lesions are mostly caused by sun damage (freckles, solar lentigo, etc.), but also include:

  • Milias (shown here) appear as multiple small, white bumps (cysts) that are often located on the nose and cheeks.
  • Warts appear as hard bumps that can appear on any part of your skin. They start from a virus and are contagious.
  • Skin tags are a build up of tissue with a stem where the tag connects to your body and tends to be skin coloured.
  • Certain types of moles and nevus.
  • Seborrheic keratosis is a common skin growth that often appears as a brown, black, or tan wart-like lesion.

Dermal lesions are located under the epidermis and can be hereditary, a result from allergic reactions, medications, sun exposure, and systemic diseases. Lesions under the epidermis are called dermal lesions:

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation lesions are often caused by acne and other traumas or infections. It initially has a reddish colour when it’s inflamed and slowly disappears or turns into a brownish discoloration looking similar to melasma.

Moles (a “nevus” or “nevi”) are skin growths made of cells such as melanocytes. They can be epidermal, dermal or mixed.

There are some lesions we do not treat:

If there are concerns your lesion(s) may be cancerous we will work together to develop an action plan.

Subdermal lesions are also not treated here. These lesions are deep bumps under your skin that we wouldn’t be able to remove and would require a small surgery.

Such lesions include:

  • An abscess
  • Sebaceous cysts
  • Deep dermal or subdermal nodules
